Scuba Diving & Snorkling

The entire north east side and most of the west side of the island are full of amazing places to put a mask and look underwater, deep or shallow. The rugged underwater terrain and numerous caves both above and below the waters make up for some very interesting dives.

There are many requirements for a place to be popular among sailors, wind and water are simply prerequisites, to enjoy sailing you need beautiful destinations, lots of places to anchor or dock, supplies, services, predictable weather to mention just a few.

For an island blessed with so much nature, hiking is simply a natural thing to do. There are trails along beaches, through forests, alongside mountains and charming streets in villages. If there was one thing to wish for, would be for more trails through the thick vegetation of the forests.

It doesn't take long to figure out that the best way to move around this island is a bicycle, be it for shopping or discovering the remote villages of Corfu. Since most road surfaces are poor and there is always a tempting beach to get down to, mountain bikes are better suited and a competent cyclist can easily cycle throughout the entire island.

You may be asking what can be special about tennis in Corfu. For starters, it has the oldest tennis club in Greece established in 1968 by the British. Just like cricket, it started a passion for the sport long before anywhere else in Greece explaining why a large population of Corfu are keen tennis players. You will never find yourself too far away from a tennis court in Corfu...

The mountainous nature of Corfu does not lend a helping hand to golfers but the Ropa valley is a well respected golfing area close to town embedded in deep nature, with its own unique  character.
Horse Riding

For a Greek island horse riding is uncommonly popular in Corfu, partly due to the large expanses of forest and partly due to the strong British influences the island has had. There is even a rare type of pony native to the island.

More information coming up soon.
Bird Watching

Yes, there are two types of bird watching in Corfu and both are well worth it. The three lagoons are the primary source of attraction for wild birds, winter being the best time of the year with many migrating species making their stopovers, some literally next to the airport.
4x4 Safari

Despite the poor state of the roads a 4x4 is not really necessary in Corfu but you can certainly enjoy one for a couple of days either by joining an organized safari tour or simply selecting a point on your GPS and heading for it, but just in case make sure the mobile phone is charged, you might just have to call a friend.

The word ''photography'' translated from Greek means 'writing with light' so if light is the primary ingredient of photography, Corfu has one of the most delicious lights anywhere in the World.
Things you can do
This statement may surprise a lot of people who might claim that there is very little to do other than sip cold drinks under the hot Sun and party at night. No, there is nothing wrong with relaxing on the beach, especially lying on the golden sands of Corfu and accumulating party energy for night.

But trends change and many people are seeking new challenges and experiences in addition to a nice tan and beach photos. In this respect Corfu is still mostly undiscovered, not because it has little to offer, but being a victim of its own success, developing of activities was simply not needed. But need is the driving force and as there is a demand for activities now, the island is fast discovering its potential for a surprisingly large range of activities it can offer, some already well developed, others on their way up.

It would not be fair to claim that Corfu is the ideal place for all the activities below, but then again nowhere is. Activities like sailing and scuba diving are obvious choices, others like cricket and golf will probably surprise you, as will a few more, so put on your sports mouse and click away to find out what exactly would suit you.
