Sporting things you can do In Corfu - Wind & Kite Surfing
Issos lay's east of the Korission lagoon opening and in essence is a continuation of Chalikouna with a very similar look and feel, but very different in use. Issos is well sheltered from the wind with no waves to talk about and being close to a number of tourist resorts it is a popular and busy spot for Sun worshippers. This is not really a surfers beach like Chalikounas or Acharavi but a place where people come to a have a nice relaxing day on the beach and one of the best places to learn windsurfing and sailing.

The beach is a large area of soft yellow sand which stretches for a several square kilometres that form a beautiful area of sand dunes and wild vegetation reaching all the way  to the inner shores of the lagoon.

Shaped like a crescent and and protected from the north by a small rocky hill the beach is well sheltered from the elements but does have a few shallow reefs. As the waters are always calm and very shallow they are easily visible and pose no threats so all in all and excellent beach in all respects.

Winds reach the shoreline side off from the right but as the sand dunes are fairly tall the upper (northern) side is sheltered both from strong wind and wave becoming turbulent as the wind strengthens.

For most days this is an excellent place for beginners  since the waters remain dead calm with light to moderate winds for the greatest part of the day, turbulence never being an issue unless winds exceed a force 4.

When they do it gives intermediates a lot of opportunities to push their skills having a lot of flat runway with a gradual entry to stronger winds and only moderate waters, knowing there is a safety boat near by to pick them up should it be necessary.

The lower end of the beach has much cleaner and consistent wind but the waters are a little bit rougher and don't have the comfort zone that beginners are looking for nor the challenges that more advanced rider want.

Safety. You might think there is nothing to worry about on such a cushy beach but you would be wrong. There is just one, but very important thing to watch out for, weather you are surfing or just swimming and its the danger of being blown offshore to mainland Greece. On a windy day there is nothing to stop you from drifting for miles before you reach land, so never be out alone and without the cover of a rescue boat.

Equipment for hire is available as are professional instructors for windsrufing and hobby cats.
